How to Make the Most of Your Family Traditions

Lizzy Davis | Holidays & Traditions

I've never met a family without their own set of traditions. One of my favorite parts of getting married was combining the myriad of traditions from each of our families. Some will undoubtedly be the same, and some are ridiculously different (turns out some families never outgrow the birthday spanking machine...). Many we have saved or changed slightly for our own family. We have had a blast creating our very own. When you are deliberate in considering how you can make the most of family ... Although rewarding, parenting often pushes me to my limits. I am not patient by nature and that makes for some frustrating moments raising 2 toddlers. Each day is an opportunity to practice composure. I’ve noticed lately, though, that my toddlers teach me a lot about behavior.  Each of them effortlessly models traits of success that I could benefit from, were I to follow their lead.  Attempting to model some of my toddlers’ highly successful habits has helped me to appreciate ... 7 Important Principles That Will Strengthen Your Marriage

Lizzy Davis | Marriage

During our early years of marriage, I found myself at several bridal showers where each married woman would share one piece of advice. Some were goofy and some were serious. I loved gathering the advice for our own newlywed state, as well as considering what advice I might share myself. I've spent the bulk our 7 years of life together studying marriage through experience and education. Here are 7 principles that I believe will strengthen any marriage - no matter what stage you are in. 1. ... Read More about 7 Important Principles That Will Strengthen Your Marriage

5 Guaranteed Ways to Nail Your 2021 Goals

Ryan Davis | Leisure, Planning & Productivity

With 2020 in the history books and the new year already in full swing, I’m feeling the pressure of setting goals for 2021.  There’s a lot that goes into goal setting, and sitting down to make New Year’s resolutions has always seemed a little overwhelming to me. (I'm not alone in saying this.) This is especially true this year, after realizing during 2020 that I’m never in ultimate control of my life, no matter how organized or proactive I might be.   But don’t get discouraged by ... We are all pretty excited about this bit of news! We are all pretty excited about this bit of news! (Especially Annie...just look at that face)!

This little sweetheart will join our family late in September and we are ready and excited!!

Our hearts are especially full at this time. Last year was a bit of a rough road, with four early and unexplained miscarriages. I had no faith or expectation that this one would be any different, and my prayers from the beginning were to be able to bear it when I lost another. But thanks to a referral to an incredible doctor (thanks @connieboman!) we got some answers, tried a few new things, and week by week I grew more and more faithful, and hesitantly excited. (I’ve never been more excited to feel morning sickness, and never more scared the days I felt okay.)

Finally, hitting 14 weeks I just NEEDED to know the gender for that extra connection. I’m so grateful that Henry and Annie could be a part of it. I felt beyond loved and comforted and at peace as I watched this little baby move on the ultrasound, knowing that she is supposed to be in our family. God has taken care of everything for us.

I’ve come across a lot of miscarriage stories in the past year from close family members, dear friends, or from google searches. I was comforted by each of these as they shared how it felt when it all worked out. I was buoyed up by hearing these stories, which is why I want to share mine. The miracle came, and so many prayers were answered-both our own and others’. God is aware of our growing family, and we are more grateful than ever for every moment we get to be together.

Our kids are the light of our home, and I know this sweet girl will only increase that light. It’s a wonderful gift to be a mother, and I feel that so much right now. Thank you to all those who have been with us through this journey! ❤️
Lately, I’ve been considering what kind of infor Lately, I’ve been considering what kind of information I can post about for those parents in our same boat. ⁣
⁣
I want to share things that are not only helpful, but that actually work. As I’ve thought on this, I keep coming back to the same thing.⁣
⁣
We can use ideas from other people (which can help), and we can come up with creative solutions to survive the terrible twos (and they often work), but no one will have the exact answer for your specific child.⁣
⁣
I’ve read enough parenting books and spent enough time in school to realize that the information is pretty much all correct…in the right situation…when implemented by the right parent…for the right child.⁣
⁣
If all the information was wrong, it would never survive publishing. If it was all correct, there would only be one book. And yet we have thousands upon thousands of books to choose from in every shape and size.⁣
⁣
So how is a parent supposed to sort through all of the information and figure out what’s going to work their family or their toddler?⁣
⁣
Love.⁣
⁣
It’s as simple as it gets, and luckily it is built in to every single parent that I have personally ever met.⁣
⁣
As parents, we complicate it. Sometimes that’s a good thing. It’s good to seek answers and solutions. ⁣
⁣
But if those answers ever distract us from this one core goal – it’s time to take a step back and remember where it all started.⁣
⁣
Love your child. Love yourself. Love your life. Embrace it all. Decide right now that you are going to focus on loving your child. Offering them the absolute best as a result of that love, is the most important thing that you will do as a parent.⁣

Family traditions create a sense of connection, se Family traditions create a sense of connection, security, and stability for children of all ages. ⁣
⁣
Traditions are simply activities repeated over and over again. It’s through repetition that children learn best. ⁣
⁣
By cultivating traditions in your home, you create the perfect environment for your kids to learn values, morals, and behaviors that would otherwise be difficult to teach.⁣
⁣
Children will learn values and morals by modeling the behavior of their parents. But intentional teaching in structured settings will impress on your kids the importance of what they’re learning. ⁣
⁣
Getting your kids to settle down long enough to pay attention to anything serious can be like herding cats. ⁣
⁣
Kids thrive in routine, though. Start now to institute family traditions in your home that are frequently repeated. You’ll find your kids clamoring to make sure you don’t forgo this time with them.⁣

Rediscover What You Love About Your Marriage!⁣
⁣
It seems that so often it's easier to focus on the negative in marriage than the good. But, if we are to reach our ideal for our happily ever after, it is absolutely vital that we start to notice and remember the good, the beautiful, and the positive in marriage. ⁣
⁣
I recognize that this can be a sensitive subject. I know there are issues in marriage that don't disappear with a few positive thoughts. I'm not trying to oversimplify difficult situations. I know some relationships will just never work out. ⁣
⁣
But, I’m confident that there are people out there who could save their marriages and enjoy a heck of a lot more happiness in their lives with just a little more knowledge. Intentional thoughts and actions about our marriages is the first step.⁣

Men: try shocking your wife sometime by doing the unexpected! Show your wife you love her by doing something she typically (or always) does. I’m not talking about taking out the trash or doing the dishes once in a while. After all, those things are expected. I’m talking about exploring the traditional world of what it’s like to be a wife or mother. ⁣
⁣
Man up, and do something hard. No matter how it turns out, you’ll be surprised how easy it can be to put a smile on your wife’s face.⁣

This year I am excited to continue creating the kind of home where we all want to be as a family. ⁣

As a wife and mother, it can feel like there are a million things to do every day. I feel that it is my job to be the heart of the home. I believe in my responsibility to create a place where I can thrive as I teach and nurture my family, as well as a space where my husband is excited to come back to. ⁣
⁣
This type of home environment is my priority and my driving force. It helps me envision a happy and warm home, which doesn't always mean a perfectly clean and organized home. It enables and motivates me to clean what needs to be cleaned. But it also allows me to drop everything and laugh and enjoy those moments that seem to be constantly slipping away.⁣

Managing everything and creating this balance is never easy, and the to do list never ends. I know I'm not the only one. In this post I share my top 8 time management tips that have revolutionized my life and our home.⁣
